Responsibilities as Head of Geography:
Contribute to the development and implementation of whole-school policies and initiatives.
Participate in school leadership meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
Manage departmental budgets effectively and ensure resources are allocated to maximise student learning.
Maintain and update teaching resources, including textbooks, digital tools, and other materials.
Ensure consistent and accurate assessment practices within the department.
Oversee the preparation of reports on student progress and achievement.
Foster positive relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community.
Promote the Geography department through school events, open days, and extracurricular activities.
Ensure the department complies with all relevant education standards and regulations.
Maintain high standards of professional conduct and model these for staff and students.
Encourage and support participation in geography-related extracurricular activities, such as field trips, clubs, and competitions.
Promote opportunities for students to engage in projects that extend their learning beyond the classroom.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Degree in Geography or a related field with a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS).
Proven experience in teaching Geography at the secondary school level
Strong passion for Geography, high expectations for students and staff, and commitment to academic excellence.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Proficiency in using technology to enhance education and the ability to analyse data for strategic decision-making.
Proactive, innovative, and dedicated to continuous professional development and the holistic development of students.
