Electrical Design Engineer Stoke-on-Trent area, UK
£35-45,000 + benefits
This role would suit an engineer with 2-3 years of relevant industry experience aligned to the design or electrical schematics / circuits for vehicle or machine applications.
This electrical design engineer / EDS Engineer role involves:
* Designing new vehicle electrical schematics / circuits
* 2D and 3D cable routing and physical harness designs
* Support with development of new products, harness build, integration and test activities
NOTE: Experience of electrical schematic design is required, including knowledge of appropriate load calculations, connector and cable specification, etc)
You will be creating and implementing new and fresh ideas for vehicle harness architecture for complex off-highway machinery. This will involve working from blank paper / concept to production.
Electrical design theory and schematic design experience is crucial, 3D CAD can be taught.
Skills / Knowledge Required: Electrical Design Engineer
* Degree level or equivalent in electrical engineering, electronics or similar
* Able to perform engineering calculations for electrical load balancing and wire sizing
* Experience working with low voltage 12/24V DC vehicle systems (preferred)
* Experience of electrical circuit schematic design
* Ability to take designs through all stages of product development, harness build, integration and validation (electrical design, prototype, to vehicle integration and production)
* Good electrical design skills within automotive, off-highway, mobile machinery, rolling stock, rail or aerospace etc (strong preference)
* Good communication skills both written and verbal to offer positive contributions in design meetings, to clients and across the business groups
Others: Beneficial
* Usage of industry standard Electrical 2D packages – Zuken E3 ideal but others considered - Catia, Solidworks, AutoCAD Electrical.
* A background in electrical harness / loom design build and test would be useful
* Understanding of design of electrical systems for rugged applications (e.g. considerations for water ingress / IP ratings, heat, abrasion, impact, vibration, etc)
To be successful in this role you will need a broad range of electrical design skills and a good understanding of 2D schematic circuit design, 2D/3D harness design, fuse and wire sizing, calculations, component selection and routing.
