Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
A bit about the role
As a Children's Services Worker, you will provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for both children and families.
You will organise and facilitate contact between parents and children, whilst keeping a record of visits to discuss outcomes at contact review meetings.
This role requires you to facilitate meetings for multiple families; therefore, you must possess the ability to manage caseloads effectively and efficiently.
About the service
The Vale Contact Centre provides supervised contact for children and their families where the children are placed within the care of the local authority while there are ongoing court proceedings.
Although the main base is at LDS House Barry, there may be times when you are out in the community at various venues throughout the Vale of Glamorgan and may also be required to collect and/or drop off the children from their home or school, etc., to attend the contact sessions as needed.
We use a system of whole-family support to contribute to the wellbeing of families, with a view to provide stability and enable them to overcome difficulties and live happier lives.
Our core operational hours are Monday: 09.00 - 17.30, Tuesday to Thursday: 09.00 - 19.00, Friday: 09.00 - 17.00, and Saturday: 09.00 - 13.00.
We have 2 full-time positions available; 1 is permanent and the other is for a fixed-term contract until 1st October 2025 with possible extension subject to further funding.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
* Organising and supervising contact between children and parents in a safe and friendly environment.
* Recording accurate information and sharing appropriately with AFC, Social Services, and Local Authorities.
* Identifying and reporting any safeguarding concerns to ensure appropriate advice and actions can be taken.
* Communicating with parents and children going through difficult periods in their lives in a sensitive, empathetic manner.
Let's talk about you
As a Children's Services Worker, ideally, you will have:
* Experience working with children and/or parents/families in a similar role.
* Ability to communicate effectively with parents and children in a sensitive manner.
* Experience of clear, concise record keeping.
* Understanding of GDPR, safeguarding, and relevant policies.
* The ability to drive. The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.

Talent Pool:
We know talent when we see it. But sometimes we find the right person but not for the right job. We'd love to keep your details for when the right job comes up. Let us know if you'd rather we didn't.
Diversity, equality, and inclusion:
At Action for Children, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. We actively encourage applications from Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic and disabled candidates as they are under-represented within Action for Children. We want to take deliberate and purposeful action to ensure equal opportunity to all groups in society and for Action for Children.
Male staff are under-represented within our Children Service roles. We would like to encourage more male applicants for our Children Service roles.
If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with the job description, we'd love you to apply anyway. You might just be the perfect person for this role, or another role within the Action for Children family.
