Shop Manager, Carlisle
The Rebuild Site CIC is a small and growing business that collects spare materials from building sites, and gives them to charities for free as well as selling them in our shop. In Carlisle, we run a Tool Library for people to borrow tools instead of having to buy them, and we also have a small low-cost paint shop. We’re looking for a Shop Manager to run and develop the Carlisle shop in a pivotal year.

Accountable to: Directors
Responsible for: Shop Team, Driver and Volunteers
Contract: 12 months initial contract with potential to extend depending on performance
Rate of Pay: £28,000 per annum plus 5% pension.
Annual Leave: 25 per year, plus bank holidays
Current Working Days: Full time, Wednesday – Sunday each week.

Main Purpose of the job:
1. To oversee the successful management of the shop, collections and deliveries
2. To maintain the stock systems, EPOS and keep items up to date
3. To oversee shop team and volunteers, and ensure they are properly trained and supported
Key Responsibilities:
Sales and Profit
1. Increase current sales to meet targets agreed with the Directors
2. Ensure stock is priced appropriately in line with the Rebuild ethos
3. Devise and develop sales initiatives and merchandising areas to increase sales (such as ‘build it kits’ and themed areas)
4. Provide content for social media posts on new stock (such as photographs and captions)
5. Manage the shop eBay account for online selling
6. Report monthly on sales to Directors
Shop Management
1. Lead on shop health and safety compliance
2. Work with the shop team and deliveries and collections team to keep shop and back of house areas tidy and compliant with health and safety guidelines and risk assessments
3. Price all items and make sure pricing is clear for customers
4. Make sure shop is open on time, and any closures are communicated well in advance.
5. Provide a high level of customer service, including a welcoming and supportive approach to each customer, assisting customers with loading of materials, and giving more information about products.
Stock Management
1. Make sure stock is of suitable quality for sale
2. Maintain and update the stock management system in a timely manner (training will be given)
3. Work with deliveries and collections team to enter new stock into the system, including taking pictures and working out prices
Team and Volunteer Management
1. Manage shop team to realise their full potential
2. Put together rotas for shop team at least 4 weeks in advance
3. Devise appropriate volunteer placements and ensure everyone is made to feel welcome, valued and part of the team.
Premises and Security
1. Be the key holder of the shop during working hours
2. Take responsibility for the shop takings, including safe storage and banking as needed.
Training
1. Undertake training as deemed necessary. This may include Health and Safety, First Aid, Fire safety etc.
2. Train staff and volunteers as appropriate.
