No academic assessment is required to attend the school – entry is based solely on musical talent.

Values and vision: Chetham’s School of Music aims to deliver stimulating lessons that encourage pupils to develop good learning habits. Students get the chance to showcase their musical talents by performing in lunchtime concerts. Teachers and children value each other and celebrate everyone’s successes. Pupils are urged to attend the performances of their peers, giving feedback and showing their support.
ISI report: “Levels of supervision at all times are good. Staff have appropriate levels of training to care for the age and needs of the pupils and the nature of the activity. The school has an appropriate and comprehensive written behaviour policy, which covers behaviour both during the school day and at other times. It includes the school rules, disciplinary sanctions, occasions when restraint may be used and also arrangements for searching pupils and their possessions. The policy is effectively implemented throughout the school.”
