Sister / Charge Nurse, Band 6- Gastroenterology (18.75 hours a week)
We are seeking an experienced nurse to apply for the Sister/ Charge Nurse position in the Gastroenterology Ward (Knightsbridge) at Cheltenham General Hospital. You should have appropriate gastroenterology experience at Band 6 or experience as a Band 5/6 in another acute clinical setting similar in nature.
You should be dynamic, energetic and committed to the specialty. You will need to have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to take on this role. You should also be able to demonstrate experience and proven project management skills, evidence of maintaining standards and leadership within the clinical setting. Providing excellent nursing care should be a priority ensuring that high standards are continually maintained and developed further as practice develops/changes.
This role is also about developing others so you should enjoy working with, motivating and encouraging junior members of the team, helping to develop new skills and confidence. You will be fully supported by the ward manager, current team of nurses, and other healthcare support workers within the unit.

Main duties of the job
As a Sister/ Charge Nurse you will care for patients during your shift, co-ordinate events and support your junior colleagues, acting as a role model at all times. You will support the manager for the area, working as a member of the senior team on the ward displaying excellent leadership skills. You will continuously monitor and ensure quality and safety for our patients and will be actively involved in answering any concerns, complaints, and complete investigation reports through incident reporting.
As a Sister/Charge Nurse, you will deliver multi professional high quality care, working with patients toward rehabilitation, self management and independence throughout the continuum of care. To lead a motivated and experienced team of nurses supporting evidence based care, facilitating staff learning and development. Supervising junior staff and nursing students.
Job responsibilities
* The ability to lead team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care with the multidisciplinary team.
* To communicate effectively especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
* An ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.

* To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.

* To undertake and support the Ward Manager in recruitment, retention and performance related issues, including being regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship for unqualified/qualified staff and students.
* Support the Ward Manager for clinical area in the management of budgetary control and resource management including duty rotas and skill mix requirements.
* To take the lead with Clinical Governance and risk management in your designated area.
* To input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based system and maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.
* To respond to and junior staff members with Patient Public Involvement ensuring it is integrated into service delivery.
* To provide clinical leadership that inspires and motivates others.
* To work with the Manager/ward management team ensuring that appropriate staff working in the ward environment have the knowledge and skills to provide expert care to the acutely ill patient.
* To liaise with other members of the team to ensure policies and protocols are in place to facilitate expert care of acutely unwell patients.
* To be actively involved in the setting up and maintaining of educational programmes that ensure advanced knowledge and skills amongst the nursing team.

Qualifications
Essential
* Experience clinician with evidence of motivating staff and team building, with proven analytical skills
* Evidence of teaching and assessing and appropriate qualification
* Demonstrate understanding and implementation of research based practice
* Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and planning skills
* Registered Nurse (Adult) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
Experience
Essential
* Ensure strong leadership for patient safety
* Demonstrate evidence of change management
* Recognised management course or equivalent level of skill gained through experience
