Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Manager - Potters Bar, Hertfordshire - £55-£65k+ package (package includes company car or allowance in lieu, 8% pension, 24 days holiday plus stats, bonus scheme)
Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Manager required for a well-established construction contractor/subcontractor with operations across varied sectors, working for major main contractors on MOD and MOJ projects. They have used external Health and Safety consultants for a number of years and are now seeking to bring a full-time in-house safety professional in to support the growth of the business and continual improvement.
Responsibilities:
1. On a day-to-day basis provide guidance and advice to the business on compliance with statutory requirements and company standards using Guidance and Observation visits.
2. Respond to requests for advice which fall within the job holder's area of expertise, through discussion with the SHE Manager, and others where appropriate.
3. Undertake risk assessments relating to SHE.
4. Proactively work with operational teams during the project lifecycle to ensure that SHE is considered at all stages and that relevant control measures are identified.
5. Assist the business with the implementation of the 9001, 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
6. Undertake ‘active’ monitoring of company projects using the monitoring system.
7. Highlight areas where poor practice and/or significant risk have occurred.
8. Investigate incidents and produce detailed factual reports identifying root causes and recommendations for improvement.
9. Liaise with enforcing authorities as necessary.
10. Assist the SHE Manager in the preparation, review, and updating of policies and procedures relating to the management of SHE.
11. Work with senior managers and/or directors on the development and implementation of divisional level strategies for improvement.
12. Keep up to date with new legislation and best practices in the industry through regular reading of journals and relevant website/site visits.
13. Raise awareness on SHE and sustainability issues through toolbox talks and briefings, delivering training where necessary.
Qualifications/Experience:
1. NEBOSH Construction/general cert (minimum).
2. NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ L6 in OHAS (desired).
3. Providing proactive support to operational business units.
4. Up-to-date knowledge of UK legislation in relation to SHE.
5. Operation/development of systems accredited to 9001/14001/45001.
6. Relevant construction sector experience.
