About the Team
You will join a team of seven practitioners headed by our three partners (Charles Power, Ben Marshall, and Ben McKinley) recognized by their peers as leaders in the field. The Melbourne team forms part of our national WRS Group with nine partners across offices in Melbourne, Canberra, and other locations.
About the Role
As a member of the team, you will work on a diverse range of matters relating to issues such as industrial disputes, compliance and change management, sexual harassment, discrimination, unfair or unlawful dismissal, and complex workplace investigations and reviews.
This is a great opportunity to undertake interesting and varied work with clients across a range of sectors in a supportive environment that fosters development under senior leaders.
You will work on matters supervised by each partner. The work will relate to advice and representation of primarily employer clients across a range of industries including health and aged care, professional services, property and construction, financial services, hospitality, retail, technology, and government sectors.
You will be trusted to gain, retain, and develop client relationships and will actively participate in the marketing activities of the Group, including writing articles for newsletters and bulletins, and attendance and presentation at client events.
About You
You will have experience working within a well-regarded employment practice with post-admission experience ranging from 3-6 years.
You will have developed strong drafting skills, a highly attuned eye for detail, and demonstrate an understanding, commensurate with your experience, of the Australian laws relating to:
* Employment disputes;
* Employment contracts;
* Industrial relations;
* Enterprise bargaining;
* Dismissal claims;
* Discrimination claims;
* Workplace bullying;
* Restraint of trade claims;
* Transfer of business;
* Independent contractors;
* Fair Work Act compliance;
* Work health and safety.
You will pride yourself on keeping abreast of the law and be eager to learn and develop as a lawyer under the guidance of more experienced practitioners.
You will show an aptitude for the business of private legal practice in relation to time recording, billing, debtor management, and matter control (including client liaison). You must enjoy working with, guiding, and learning from clients, and be focused on excellent customer service. You will also have experience delegating to, nurturing, and developing more junior lawyers.
Finally, you will be a positive cultural contributor to a team that is collegiate and energetic.
