Tony Gee and Partners is currently recruiting for a Graduate/ Design Engineer with highway structures/ bridge design experience to join the established highways team based in our head office in Esher
We are seeking a motivated graduate design engineer with 18 months – 3 years experience in the design of highway bridges / highway structures to join our team at our head office in Esher. This person will initially work under an experienced engineer to deliver bridge designs for an exciting upcoming major road scheme.
You will be supported and work alongside some the best engineers the industry has to offer who will help you to develop your career and skillset. You will be placed under a training agreement with the ICE or IStructE scheme and be provided with a Delegated Engineer as your mentor to continue your professional development.
Key Skills
1. Keen interest with sound knowledge / competence in structural engineering
2. Prior experience (typically 1.5 -3 years) industry relevant (work under supervision, but able to work independently to an extent)
3. Ability to undertake structural analyses using an industry-recognised software (LUSAS desirable but not essential) semi-autonomously
4. Ability to read and understand bridge engineering drawings on highway projects
5. Experience preparing mark-ups, sketches and notes for (bridge / highway structures) engineering drawings
6. Basic knowledge, understanding and appreciation of wider highway disciplines such as road restraints, drainage, highway alignment, geotechnics and how they interface with highway structures
7. Working knowledge of comfortably using Microsoft Word and Excel
8. Familiarity / knowledge working with Eurocodes / DMR
9. Ability to communicate well in verbal, aural and written forms
10. Ability to check own work, producing work to good quality standards with pride
11. Familiarity with (desirable to have direct experience preparing) AIP reports and specification appendices
12. Progressing self-development working towards chartership with a professional institution such as the ICE or IStructE
Desirable experience:
13. AutoCAD (basic knowledge and some experience interrogating models and drawings is desirable, but where candidate has no experience, training will be provided)
14. Experience / knowledge using LUSAS (Suitable training will be provided)
15. Experience writing engineering reports and documents (AIP's, Assessment reports, Inspection reports, Specification appendices)
Desired Qualifications:
16. BEng or MEng, preferably working towards MICE Chartership status.
