East Lothian Council seek to appoint a dynamic and experienced individual for the position of House Head at Rosehill High School. This is a temporary role funded by PEF until the end of March 2026 and could be undertaken as a seconded position with agreement from current employers. Our school is rapidly expanding and this role has been created to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of all learners at a time of great change. Rosehilll opened in August 2023 to just over 300 pupils in S1-S3. We now have almost 500 from S1-S4, and expect to reach in well over 600 in August with S1-S5. Each House Head is currently responsible for meeting the pastoral, vocational and curricular needs of their caseload, which will just over 200 for session 25-26.

The new secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to pedagogy, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up to date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) plaza, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state of the art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus goes beyond the traditional classroom and encompasses outdoor learning, learning for sustainability, and interdisciplinary learning. The campus also includes a number of community and health spaces to support collaboration between a range of professionals and sectors.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:

* Develop an exciting and challenging curriculum within the My World personal and social education programme, which demonstrates coherence and progression with regards to both CfE benchmarks and appropriate certification in the senior phase
\n
* Exemplify the highest standards of learning, teaching and assessment to support the wellbeing and learning of all, with a clear focus on the voice of the learner to support excellence and equity
\n
* Design and implement robust processes to support young people’s knowledge and understanding of the pathways available to them within and beyond school
\n
* Make effective use of quantitative and qualitative data to self-evaluate and contribute to whole school approaches to raising attainment and achievement and supporting positive destinations
\n
* Successfully undertake a whole school leadership responsibilities commensurate with the post
\n
* Work in partnership with families to identify and address any barriers to young people’s presence, participation and achievement in school
\n
* Build positive relationships with all members of the school community, including partners supporting young people beyond school
\n
* Exhibit a commitment to ongoing professional learning with a focus on improving outcomes for young people
\n

Job Details
Subject to the policies of the school and East Lothian Council, the duties of a Principal Teacher, as a member of the school’s management team, is to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher/Depute Head Teacher will direct having reasonable regard to the overall workload of a classroom teacher.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
