An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a full-time Accountancy Assistant within the Technical Accountancy team in Newport City Council. Reporting to the Team Leader for the Technical team, this post will play a key role in providing financial assistance to the Accountancy Team and Budget Managers, which will underpin critical decision-making within the Capital programme.
We are looking for applicants who are currently studying for or have attained foundation level AAT (or equivalent). The post provides genuine significant scope to further develop your career, both professionally and personally.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist with budget preparation, monthly budgetary control reports, and final accounts preparation.
2. Communicate financial information to non-finance managers.
3. Demonstrate an aptitude for IT skills, with advanced spreadsheet and/or database knowledge.
4. Prioritise demanding workloads to meet tight deadlines.
5. Possess a sound knowledge of Local Government finance.
Equally important will be your enthusiasm and desire to enhance financial decision-making in a particularly challenging area of the Authority's work.
Working as part of Newport City Council has numerous advantages. For example, a hybrid approach to work is common across all services, with individuals experiencing a balance between office-based and home-based working, based on service requirements. Other flexible working arrangements are on offer, and employees are offered support to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Part of this offer includes a generous annual leave entitlement and the option to purchase additional leave, should that be required, as well as other employee benefits.
Further details can be obtained by contacting leanne.townsend@newport.gov.uk.
