Technology & IP Counsel Permanent role; based in London UK; 10 years PQE Competitive market salary and benefits package reflecting qualifications and experience The Role This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior technology and IP lawyer to join the ERM Legal Group. This new role will lead the design and implementation of a legal framework and governance structure for technology and IP for the ERM group. As a subject matter expert, you will negotiate a wide range of strategic technology and digital agreements, support digital transformation projects, technology initiatives, identify, protect and commercialise IP, including the management of the trademark portfolio with external advisers, and provide general advice and guidance to the business on day to day matters. This is a fast paced, commercially focused and highly collaborative environment, working with ERM business units, clients, service providers and external legal counsel in over 40 country locations. You will act as a trusted legal adviser to colleagues throughout the business units at various levels of seniority. You will report to the Chief Corporate Counsel and be a key player within the ERM Legal Group. Responsibilities: Legal support and leadership for ERM’s digital transformation initiatives, including the implementation of new technologies, software platforms and digital processes. Work across functions to develop an intercompany legal and governance framework for the development, ownership and licensing of digital products/assets/IP. Develop client contracting templates for the sale/licensing of digital products and services. Negotiate and advise on a wide range of technology contracts, including software and IP licenses, service-level agreements, IT supplier and tech partner agreements, reseller services and B2B client contracts. Lead the development of a governance framework for ERM IP and oversee our trademark and patent portfolios; advise on IP matters (including patents, copyrights and trademarks) to protect and leverage IP assets effectively. Assist the Head of Privacy with advice on data privacy and security issues and implementing ERM’s privacy framework, including the development of data protection policies and procedures, maintaining RoPa and conducting privacy impact assessments. Monitor and reflect changes in technology law, regulation and industry standards in ERM’s operating model and internal policies and procedures. Conduct legal risk assessments for technology projects, identifying potential legal risks and supporting the business to implement appropriate mitigations. Conduct training sessions and provide legal guidance to internal stakeholders on technology-related legal matters, promoting awareness of legal risks and best practices. Address day-to-day legal technology issues that arise, including contract interpretation, intellectual property disputes, data breaches and technology-related disputes. What you’ll need: UK qualified lawyer with at least 10 years PQE, at least 5 years in-house experience Cross-jurisdictional experience at a senior level in an information technology business Deep legal knowledge in IT, IP and data protection law and a solid understanding of tech/SaaS business models and product development lifecycles This job is a good fit for you if: You are an excellent communicator with proven technical and organisational skills, with the ability to be open and candid whilst demonstrating respect for others and cultivating a culture of inclusion and trust.
