We are seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to lead the commercial management of our frameworks and contracts, ensuring financial efficiency and delivering excellence in our programme of works.

Brief Description
This role sits within the Industry Partnership for Digital Railway (IPDR) area of GBRX. IPDR is bringing together track and train to deliver game-changing digital in cab signalling. This technology unlocks greater capacity, enhanced safety and a more affordable and greener railway for passengers and freight. Transformation on this scale is only possible through close collaborative working across all sectors of the railway.
About the role
The successful candidate will possess strong Senior Commercial Manager capabilities, including expertise in applicable regulations, governance, and best practices across pre- and post-contract environments. They will demonstrate a proactive approach in understanding industry business models and addressing the priorities of diverse stakeholders. Critical thinking and the ability to influence others in solving novel problems are essential.
A solid understanding of governance controls when managing public money is crucial. While knowledge of railway legislation and contractual environments is desirable, experience with ETCS and railway operations is advantageous but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Establish and implement commercial strategies, ensuring effective cost management and feedback into procurement processes.
* Provide commercial management of framework agreements, leading reviews of contractor delivery and attending progress meetings.
* Lead negotiation of prices under existing contracts, participating in risk assessments and value management workshops.
* Manage all project reporting, explaining variances and proposing mitigating actions where necessary.
* Oversee commercial correspondence, contractual notices, and the resolution of contract disputes.
* Ensure compliance with company standards and lead final account settlements on all projects.
* Support both pre and post-contract procurement activities, acting as a mentor and coach for commercial staff.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Knowledge of railway and construction industry contracts and conditions.
* Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, with a professional qualification.
* Proven experience as a negotiator, with a track record of resolving contract disputes in construction.
* Minimum of 5 years experience in railway and/or construction commercial management.
* Expertise in managing railway commercial contracts.
