Manufacturing Engineer - Projects
Team Swift is recruiting for a Manufacturing Projects Engineer to join our team! The role involves working alongside stakeholders from the manufacturing team to ensure a smooth, efficient and timely build of manufactured products and components within the production environment. The role is also required to establish stringent engineering standards to ensure our world-class leisure vehicle products are built OTIF and to our exacting quality standards.
You will have the opportunity to be part of the popularity of the British staycation and work within a fast-paced, EPIC, dynamic and modern manufacturing environment.
The role reports directly to the General Manager of Technical Operations and is also reports in to the Engineering Director and Chief Technology Officer.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* Actively increase production efficiencies and continuously look for ways to reduce costs, improve quality and minimise disruption to build, whilst ensuring H&S standards are maintained at all times
* Ensure all engineering issues are correctly diagnosed, recorded, resolved and actioned to minimise disruption and maximise productivity and product quality metrics
* Undertake investigations across first batch introduction and current model production and conduct detailed root cause analysis to understand why issues occur and under what conditions
* Lead engineering change activities and provide concise information through to Product Engineering to action the required changes
* Draft and update process documentation to describe standard operating procedures and highlight areas critical to both quality and safety metrics
* Develop, introduce and enforce technical standards across a range of complex products and processes
* Conduct evaluations of mid-season change proposals through the engineering evaluation process
* Design, develop and introduce jigs and tooling for all major operations in the production areas
* Lead the creation of PFMEAs and control plans to ensure consistent quality outcomes
* Support supplier installation audits and work with key suppliers to ensure Swift processes align with their expectations
* Actively pursue waste in all its forms and create action plans to reduce or remove entirely
* Work closely with the facilities team to introduce new plant and equipment to ensure its safe and efficient operation
* Support and where necessary lead continuous improvement processes with a focus on lean and six sigma methodologies and mindset
* Actively support and champion our EPIC core values by positively working with others
* Be familiar with, and adhere to, company policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Academic requirements:
* Degree in an engineering discipline or other relevant engineering qualification i.e. HNC, HND etc.
* Advanced degree preferred i.e. MSc etc.
* IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is desirable
* Registration as a professional engineer with the relevant institution is desirable i.e. IEng, CEng etc.
Individual requirements:
* Minimum three years of manufacturing experience within the caravan, automotive or analogous industries
* Demonstrable record of achievement in previous roles
* Experience with best-practice engineering tools and techniques
* Practical skills with knowledge and capabilities to use typical production equipment and tools
* Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
* Working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act
* Working Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Continuous Improvement methodologies
* Highly driven self-starter with an ability to deal with problems quickly and efficiently
* Good interpersonal skills and be robust when technical and quality matters.
* Strong verbal, written communication and reporting skills
* Ability to break down barriers to change and be robust when required
* Ability to negotiate, plan and manage resources
* Ability to work under pressure, to deadlines, whilst maintaining process disciplines
* Fully IT literature ideally with advanced skills in MS Office and Project software
