With over 60 years of experience and being a worldwide market leader, Listgrove is proud to be partnering one of the largest technical polymer component manufacturers, in their search for a talented Senior Material Process Engineer, to ensure their products and services maintain a focus on meeting ever increasing customer demands.
Job Objective
As an experienced Senior Material Process Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, designing, and improving polymer materials & processing methodologies used in various industries. You will work closely with a team (Sales, Operations, Supply chain) to research and analyze polymer materials / composites & processing technologies, as well as optimize existing ones. Your expertise will be crucial in developing innovative solutions and ensuring the efficient production and application of polymer materials. This is NOT a polymer scientist's position; you will not be engaged in developing raw materials. The materials are bought in and your role will be to evaluate them against the manufacturing processes.
Job Responsibilities
1. Conduct research on polymer / composite materials, including studying their properties, behaviour, and applications in relation to specific processing.
2. Recommend alternative polymer formulations to meet specific project requirements and industry standards.
3. Projects could be from product improvements, change management, process improvements, optimisations and new product / process development.
4. Demonstrable experience in material / composition development.
5. Expert knowledge in material analysis, testing and characterisation of polymer materials along with scientific interpretation of test findings.
6. Test methods to cover mechanical, tribological, rheological and microscopic techniques.
7. Collaborate with production and manufacturing teams to optimize processing techniques, such as extrusion, coatings, moulding, and compounding.
8. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement cost-effective measures including establishing quality control procedures and specifications for materials and processes.
9. Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to polymer materials & processes, including defects, inconsistencies, and performance problems via root cause analysis, data analysis and validation techniques to implement corrective actions.
10. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, chemists, and technicians, to exchange knowledge, coordinate projects, and ensure effective collaboration.
11. Present research findings, project updates, and technical reports to customers and stakeholders.
12. Writing structured and detailed technical reports on material development and process development projects.
13. Write structured and detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures.
14. Manage multiple projects which includes project planning, WBS (work breakdown structure), critical path analysis.
Job Skill Set
1. Reading of CAD engineering drawings is a must.
2. Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards, such as REACH, ROHS, ISO, ASTM, and FDA are preferred.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and propose innovative solutions.

11. The individual must be prepared to do ‘hands-on’ work and get ‘hands-dirty’.
Experience
1. Solid experience in material development (thermoplastics or thermosets or composites or elastomers) is mandatory.
2. Minimum 5 - 7 years’ experience in polymer or composite industry.
3. Proficiency in polymer processing techniques such as extrusion, injection molding, compounding, prepreging and coatings.
4. Experience with polymer characterization techniques, including thermal analysis, rheology, mechanical testing, and microscopy.
5. Experience in tribology is advantageous.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Polymer engineering and have relevant experience in a similar role. Chemical, Mechanical or Materials engineering disciplines are acceptable if individual possesses strong knowledge and experience in polymers (or composite materials) and related processing technologies.
