Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist for North Tyneside General Hospital Acute Services.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide a comprehensive service in the specialised area.
2. To provide clinical expertise at an advanced level in the assessment, diagnosis and management of highly complex clients.
3. To provide specialist input to strategic planning, development, audit and evaluation of clinical services, protocols and policies within the specialised area.
4. To work with other lead specialist clinicians for the identified area, providing highly specialised advice and programmes of care.
5. To ensure service provision in the specialised area is prioritised and service delivery is made effectively within resource constraints.
6. To practice within the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist assessments, diagnosis and treatment using advanced clinical reasoning skills.
7. To manage a caseload of clients (often varied and with highly complex needs), using evidence-based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
8. To provide leadership and clinical education for senior, junior and support staff, through supervision and day-to-day support.
9. To plan and implement training at a uni-disciplinary and multi-professional level in order to enhance services within the specialism and ensure effective clinical practice.
10. To carry out appraisals with junior and support staff, as delegated by Line Manager.
11. To regularly supervise undergraduate students on practice placement and participate in placement experience of other professionals.

Job responsibilities
1. Work alongside the Clinical Leads, Team Managers and Operational Manager to provide specialist input to strategic planning, development, audit and evaluation of clinical services, protocols and policies within the specialised area.
2. Lead and work with the Community Response Service to ensure that service demand is met with the focus on complex discharge planning.
3. Ensure that all resources are utilised to meet demand, gather relevant information, and liaise with referrers, patients and managers.
4. Offer support and supervision to band 6 staff around discharge planning and ensuring NHCT policies and procedures are adhered to.
5. Ensure an appropriate deployment of staff within the team ensuring an appropriate skill mix across the units.
6. Provide support, direction and guidance on a day-to-day basis to staff team members and other external agencies.
7. Provide a comprehensive service in the specialised area and clinical expertise at an advanced level in the assessment, diagnosis and management of highly complex clients.
8. Promote and ensure safe working practice for all team members both within the office environment and in the wider community at all times - lone working policy, health and safety policy, risk assessments, moving and handling assessments etc.
9. Facilitate student placements within the team e.g. nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, trainee doctors etc.
10. Ensure assessments of need are undertaken.
11. Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the trust.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in O.T.
* State registered with Health and Care Professions Council.
* Post Graduate training relevant to specialist area.
