ROLE PURPOSE Safety Director (SHEQ) is a new role to both lead compliance and promote an integrated approach to health, safety, environment and quality across our organisation and estate. We are looking for a confident and experienced leader looking for a broad role within a dynamic customer focused business. An expert practitioner in Safety, you will have a proven track record of both maintaining demonstrable legal compliance whilst developing integrated management systems and supporting departmental operations. This is a high-profile position based in London and working with all parts of our business, customers, landlord and statutory authorities. We encourage flexible working although the job is likely to need an office or site presence at least three days per week. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES SAFETY Act as the competent person for Safety across our organisation and directly controlled estate Develop and maintain a business-wide Safety strategy linked to defined objectives and drive co-ordinated implementation. Ensure all required Safety policies and processes are in place, legally compliant and co-ordinated with wider organisational activities. Oversee Safety compliance and performance through appropriate metrics and assurance, reporting to executive leaders and governance forums Provide ad hoc departmental support through guidance, advice and direction working either personally or through specialist resource. Oversee and/or lead incident investigations, ensuring that lessons are learned, and driving continuous improvement in Safety practice. Maintain an appropriate Safety training matrix for all roles across the business, leading on content definition and direct/external delivery. Develop and maintain a safety management system reflective of ISO 45001. Horizon scan and provide advice as we develop our service delivery model SAFETY HEALTH ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY Oversee corporate and operational Environmental compliance for the business. Develop and maintain an Environmental Compliance framework aligned to our safety management system. Work with departmental heads and our supplier management team to review, on board and oversee supply partners from Safety and Environmental perspectives. Establish, maintain and develop a Quality Management System across SH&E, integrating activity within wider business systems and processes SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE Essential: Successful leadership and practitioner experience in health and safety roles across multi-site operations within the commercial property sector. Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) Degree (or equivalent) in a related subject such as Occupational Safety and/or NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals. Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation related to the built environment and occupational health and safety. A detailed understanding of Safety compliance and enforcement, with some experience of working with both safety and environmental statutory bodies. A working knowledge Environmental compliance and enforcement. A working knowledge and experience of quality management systems. Able to communicate effectively at all levels with a high degree of numeracy and IT literacy. Proficient in safety leadership and reporting at company level to both executive teams and shareholders Experience with specialist software programs related to environmental performance and H&S management. A strong attention to detail with a tenacious approach to ensuring compliance and influencing behaviour within an operational business and its supply chain. Able to manage a small team and consultants, scaling resources and activity. Desired: Experience of SHEQ leadership within a real estate-based organisation, at director level or equivalent. Familiarity with the specification, selection and deployment of property / real estate and facilities management systems.
