Part time Youth Worker (Housing Support)

£20,500 to £23,500 per annum FTE
Hours: 20 per week Monday to Friday
Some flexibility needed for occasional weekend and Bank Holiday working

Job Purpose:
YMCA George Williams, Southampton is located close to Southampton City centre and is a purpose-built housing facility accommodating 52 people aged 16-25, some of whom have complex needs, supporting them to live independently. As a key member of the Youth Engagement Team working at Southampton, this post will deliver evidenced-based and youth-focused programmes to residents and the wider Southampton Community.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* Facilitate housing and benefit support sessions with YMCA Members
* Assist with benefit applications and adjustments appropriate and relevant to needs of YMCA Members
* Facilitate the booking and delivery of community-based programmes.
* Assist YMCA Members with budgeting and financial management
* Act as an advocate for young people and to signpost and support access for them into agencies and services appropriate to the young people’s needs.
* Undertake risk assessments and support planning interviews with new residents.
* Actively support job search, training, and volunteering opportunities with young people who are not in education, employment, or training.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Knowledge of services such as housing support, benefit services and the relevant processes
* Basic knowledge of up to date housing law and local policy/procedures
* Knowledge and ability to provide correct information to tenants regarding housing, benefits or any other relevant tenancy issues
* An understanding of the Local Authority Housing Allocation register
* A willingness to work in partnership with YMCA Housing Manager and Credit Control
