Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your UK Railway design expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to a Design Delivery Manager working under the Control Systems Design Group Manager Mifaz Miftha located at Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and work alongside expert, supportive and diverse teammates.
You'll play a critical role in ensuring a compliant, on-time and to budget design delivery is achieved in your role within our skilled CCS Design Team. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business engineering disciplines such as product, signalling, installation, telecoms, power and test, but also for your own design in both hardware and application design you’ll work with mentors, licenced design verifiers, CRE/CEM and the customer.
You’ll specifically take care of assigned design work packages using CAD Microstation and data design tools, producing the design from source specifications through to acceptance by the client and resolution of any fault logs captured during the validation process. The CCS Team is looking for candidates to have strengths in either hardware or data design since our approach will be to cross-train into both design disciplines.
We’ll look to you for:
Assistant Designer in hardware and data design for the Alstom Control Centre Systems product platforms following the standard Alstom procedures. Working closely with other team members and departments during the design life cycle to provide robust design solutions.
Objectives:
• Ensure that the control system designs are delivered to the project schedule, to the required technical standards, specifications and procedures.
• Take full cognisance of the project concept, requirements, assurance plan, acceptance criteria, project scope and technical specification.
• Attend design review meetings covering the designs produced as and when required.
• Attend Interdisciplinary Design Reviews (IDR) and Interdisciplinary Design Check (IDC) when required.
Responsibilities:
• Carry out design work under mentorship of experienced Designers and Lead Application Engineers.
• Ability to interact with other experts and peers and to problem solve and identify technical conflicts.
• Produce designs under mentorship that comply with the company, technical and customer standards.
• Actively seek to improve design and engineering processes.
• Participate in periodic CRE design reviews and mentor reviews.
• IRSE licence log book kept up to date.
• Licensed or working towards IRSE Design License 1.1.510 supported and sponsored by Alstom.

• Knowledge or Appreciation of railway operations or system engineering activities.
