As our Senior Software Engineer, you’ll help shape Riverford’s digital future.
We’re looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team, driving the development of innovative customer-facing and back-office solutions. You'll work on a range of projects, from bespoke applications to third-party integrations, ensuring high-quality, well-tested software.

Salary: £80k - £85k per annum d.o.e
Hours - The role is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We encourage flexitime and hybrid working. This role can be remote with a requirement to be on-site when needed, or based at our HQ at Wash Farm, Devon.
Your Responsibilities…
Collaborating with business stakeholders, including product managers, SMEs, and key function owners, to tackle high-value business problems head-on.
Crafting innovative solutions that perfectly align with user and stakeholder requirements, by leveraging your creative problem-solving skills.
Building cutting-edge solutions with your expert knowledge of Clojure and potentially other technologies.
Focusing on exciting areas such as e-commerce APIs, delivery and logistics, CMS, payment processing, and third-party vendor integrations, to make a real impact on our platform's capabilities.
Skills and Experience…
Clojure experience; other JVM languages are also desirable.
Expert understanding of the JVM, its library ecosystem and tooling.
Strong understanding of SQL Databases. At Riverford we use MySQL and SQL Server.
Computer science fundamentals, data structures, time, and space complexity.
Architecture fundamentals: able to reduce complexity, understand concurrency, and understand distribution.
Automated testing experience. We automate integration, acceptance, and unit tests. We use selenium to test our UIs.
Version control experience, we use git.
AWS experience is highly desirable. We host on AWS and leverage many of its services. Familiarity in writing tooling against AWS APIs is desirable.
Capable of solving problems and communicating them to both technical and non-technical people.
Good amount of experience in commercial software development, working with teams, full stack development and integrating disparate systems.
You have a history of delivering architectural decisions on the projects you have worked on and will be comfortable describing the real business value behind those decisions.
