We are recruiting an Assistant Housing & Operations Manager to join Residences, looking after the accommodation needs of our students, including the management of around 50 'University Houses' and the 'Small Halls' estate of our Halls of residences (approximately 1000 bedrooms). You will join the team at an exciting time as we continue to develop our portfolio of over 6,100 rooms, including refurbishment plans and continued development of our halls to enhance the student experience. This is an exciting opportunity and a unique role, with multiple demands supporting two different managers. As such you'll typically work a day a week in the Occupancy team and four days in the Operations team.
A proportion of the successful applicant's week will be to oversee the University Houses stock, including management of all activities related to lifecycle from resident application through until the end of their tenancy. Triaging incoming maintenance requests and approving jobs will be a key aspect of the role, with internal jobs allocated to the site operational General Assistant, and/or our team of term-time maintenance contractors. You will manage two staff directly as part of this role.
You will also be responsible for supporting the operational management of the Small Halls of Residence, and act as a point of escalation for Operations-related queries such as maintenance, cleaning and halls-related student discipline cases in relation to the Halls Regulations. In addition, you will be passionate about the delivery of improvements through training and oversight to our front of house services, work with the Residences team on developments in response to our Residential Staff survey, and be heavily involved in the planning, conducting and delivery of key events throughout the year.
To ensure the smooth running of our service you will need to work in close partnership with colleagues in the Student Life Cycle, Student Wellbeing, Occupancy, Operations and Facilities teams who collectively provide a 24/7 support to students in Halls. You will also need to collaborate with other departments within the University who deliver services in our Halls of Residence and ensure that enhancing the quality of the student experience is central to all work undertaken.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, self-sufficient and adaptable. In addition, they will have experience of the supervision, motivation and development of a team of staff in order to deliver excellent service. You will already have experience of service delivery in a customer environment and will need to show potential for innovative and influential thinking.
This position is currently being advertised for 35-hours per week, on a Monday-Friday rota, working between the hours of 8am and 8pm on a rotational basis. There is a requirement to work as part of a rota to support key weekends for the service, particularly through the year for open days, and in the summer for student arrival and departure periods.
