An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Yorkshire trainee paediatrician (most suitable to ST6 or above) with an interest in leadership and management to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital as the Chief Paediatric Registrar.
The Chief Paediatric Registrar role builds on the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) programme already running in the Trust. It will provide higher specialty trainees with the opportunity to develop valuable skills in leadership and management, and gives them 40% protected time to put these skills into practice by developing initiatives that address local challenges. Chief Registrars have a tangible impact on service improvement, workforce transformation, engagement and morale, and education and training, and work to deliver better outcomes for patients, colleagues and organisations, supporting to build a profile that marks them out as a future clinical leader.
Main duties of the job
The Chief Paediatric Registrars role will include:
1. Co-chair the Resident Doctor Forum in Leeds Childrens Hospital aiming to improve trainee morale, training and education.
2. Work in collaboration with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Clinical Leadership Fellows.
3. Provide a bridge between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and morale.
4. Service improvement, for example redesigning pathways, implementing new technology and establishing new services to improve flow and outcomes for patients.
5. Improving the quality of clinical and non-clinical education and training activities, and supporting/mentoring other trainees to engage in quality improvement.
6. Involvement in workforce planning and improving the deployment of trainees to meet service needs and improve morale.
7. Improving efficiency and reducing waste.
8. Working across teams and boundaries to engage stakeholders in quality improvement and influence change.

The Chief Paediatric Registrar will receive support locally in the Trust from a mentor/supervisor who is a senior clinical leader. The Chief Paediatric Registrar will be able to attend a bespoke development programme provided by the RCP.

The Leeds Childrens Hospital has an annual budget of £103 million, an inpatient bed base of 286 beds, and delivers 102,000 outpatient appointments and 20,000 inpatient and day case episodes. The majority of patient contacts is on the Leeds General Infirmary site; however, there is a Neonatal unit based on the St James Hospital site. The Leeds Childrens Hospital employs a total of 116 consultants providing general, specialist and supra-regional childrens medical and surgical services.

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
Essential
* Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date. Eligibility to work in the UK. Advanced Paediatric Life Support Certificate.
Qualifications
Essential
* Paediatric Speciality trainee doctor ST5 level or above at the time of commencement of post. Must have completed RCPCH membership exams at the time of application. Outcome 1 at last ARCP.
