This exciting new role will see you at the centre of our communications and engagement planning. Working with senior leaders, you will provide expert advice to ensure that messages are delivered in the right way at the right time to the right audience, achieving the right outcomes.
You will be an enthusiastic communications professional helping to translate the aspirations of the council into clear communications and engagement forward plans.
You will also have excellent relationship management and internal consulting skills to build productive relationships with senior leadership, knowing when and how to influence, support, or respectfully challenge to achieve the right outcomes. You’ll have great communications and engagement knowledge to provide senior officers with expert advice.
You will need to have the diplomatic skills to know when and how to challenge and when and how to support. You’ll have the ability to listen to others but also to influence them.
About the role:
You will act as the link between the council’s Directorate Leadership Teams (DLT) and the CEM team, agreeing realistic aims to meet strategic priorities and setting responsibilities and expectations. You will also be working closely with the Website Team to identify ways in which the Council’s website can support CEM outcomes.
You will develop and maintain reporting mechanisms to keep DLTs updated on progress against agreed targets or priorities.
You will manage the CEM team email inbox and support the allocation of day-to-day work.
Duties will include:
* Developing a strong relationship with Service Directors and directorate leadership teams to build mutual understanding of communication and engagement needs and opportunities – including support for demand management and behaviour change initiatives.
* Working with the Head of CEM and other senior officers in the team to develop and maintain comprehensive CEM and website forward plans in line with corporate priorities.
* Working with the Head of CEM and other senior officers in the team to develop and maintain reporting mechanisms for CEM activity that provides directorate leadership teams with the information they require on CEM performance and impact.
* Managing the operational workflow for CEM, including monitoring the email inbox and the prioritisation and allocation of communication requests.
* Supporting the Council’s response to major incidents.
* Supporting the development of a council brand and championing its adoption across the Council.
* Supporting the Head of CEM to set priorities for the team.
* Deputising for the Head of CEM as required.
* Delivering regular communications and campaigns as required.
