We are working alongside an established shipping and logistics company based in the North East who are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their team. This role would see you manage mechanical engineering aspects of capital projects at a UK port, ensuring their successful, safe, and cost-effective delivery in line with operational requirements and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities: Project Management • Support the delivery of the port’s maintenance capital projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (civil, electrical, etc.) to integrate systems and resolve challenges. Design & Development • Design and develop mechanical solutions, ensuring technical specifications, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This will include specification, detailed and analysis using modern techniques and software i.e. AutoCAD, Inventor, LUSAS and StaadPro. Procurement & Vendor Management • Oversee procurement of mechanical equipment and services. Manage relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring quality and timely delivery. Safety & Compliance • Ensure designs and systems comply with UK health, safety, and environmental standards. Conduct risk assessments and ensure mechanical systems meet safety regulations. Maintenance & Reliability • Develop and implement maintenance strategies for port equipment. Provide support to the operations team to ensure high system reliability and minimal downtime. Cost & Budget Control • Manage budgets for mechanical components, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality. Track and report project financials, highlighting risks or variances. Stakeholder Communication • Report on project progress and technical issues to port management, clients, and contractors. Ensure transparent communication and effective problem resolution. Requirements: • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Chartered Engineer status (CEng) preferred. • Proven experience in the design and delivery of engineering projects • Proficiency in mechanical equipment design, with ability to undertake technical hand calculations/analysis, use CAD software of AutoCAD, Inventor (or similar) and have experience of engineering analysis tools such as StaadPro, LUSAS and ANSYS. • Strong understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental regulations • Excellent stakeholder management and reporting skills.
