Head of KS3 Computing & ICT
Full time (32.5 hours per week), permanent
MPS/UPS + TLR 2b (£31,650-£49,084 + £5,835)

We are seeking an exceptional Teacher of Computing or ICT who has the leadership skills required to drive progress across the whole of KS3, within our computing and business faculty. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of the department, ensuring high-quality teaching and outstanding student outcomes. This role presents an exciting opportunity to enhance and refine an already strong offering for KS3 Computing students. By utilising analytical skills to evaluate KS2 prior knowledge, strengthen KS3 outcomes, and ensure a smooth transition and strong retention into KS4. At present all students in years 7 and 8 study computing once per week, with this increasing to two lessons per week in year 9. Year 9 students experience a carousel of modules including computer science, IT and business in order to best prepare them for KS4. Managing this process will be part of the role of the successful candidate.
The ideal applicant will have the ability to teach Computer Science or ICT to a high standard across multiple key stages. We are looking for a leader with exceptional subject knowledge, who is analytical, adaptable, and detail-oriented. Our department consistently achieves strong results in Computer Science, ICT, and Business, performing above national averages at KS4 and KS5 and achieving FFT5 consistently in Computer Science. We require a leader with a clear vision for continuous improvement and the ability to think strategically in preparation for future curriculum changes in Computing and ICT.
As a department, we are passionate about enhancing students' computing skills, and we are proud of the increasing numbers choosing Computing at KS4 and KS5. We also offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities, including Coding and Robotics Clubs and a Retro Gaming Club.
Heanor Gate Spencer Academy is an ‘ Outstanding’ secondary school and sixth form (Ofsted, June 2023) which is oversubscribed in Year 7 for the second successive year. We are extremely proud of our inspection report which is a testament to 7 years of school improvement.
