About the Role
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer / Technical Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing multiple switchgear and package substation projects from start to finish. This includes direct engagement with customers, overseeing technical specifications, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. You will work on projects valued between £100k and £1 million+, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project management of electrical projects from inception to completion.
* Understanding customer requirements and providing tailored solutions.
* Creation and verification of electrical diagrams and wiring schematics (Single Line Diagrams, Keyline diagrams, AC/DC wiring, etc.).
* Technical documentation reviews (e.g., load schedules, cable calculations).
* Collaboration with production teams to define material lists and component specifications.
* Technical support for internal teams (commercial, production, etc.).
* Providing expertise on HV, LV, and Protection & Control matters.
* Leading projects through manufacturing, testing, customer FATs, installation, and commissioning.
* Delivering training to internal colleagues and external customers.
* Developing engineering standards and contributing to process improvements.
* Managing subcontractors and reviewing third-party designs.
* Business development activities to enhance design processes and company procedures.
Required Skills & Experience:
* 6+ years of experience in the electrical industry, ideally with a focus on 33kV design.
* BEng in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Knowledge of power system protection schemes (11kV & 33kV).
* Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical schematics.
* Project management experience handling multiple projects simultaneously.
* Familiarity with UK standards for MV/HV electrical schematics.
* Protection & control systems design experience aligned with UK DNO standards.
* Knowledge of protection relays (ABB, Schneider Electric, GE) and settings/PSL files.
* LV electrical installation knowledge (BS7671 18th Edition) is a plus.
* Awareness of relevant ENA standards is advantageous.
* Flexible and adaptable approach to work and supporting colleagues.
* Willingness to travel occasionally to sites and international locations (e.g., Spain).
* Basic knowledge of SAP is beneficial.
* Strong problem-solving skills aligned with a solutions-driven mindset.
* Experience with numerical relay testing (e.g., Omicron CMC356) is an advantage.
* Customer interaction experience (e.g., managing FATs) is a plus.
