We have an excellent opportunity for a Full Time Permanent Fleet Engineering Manager to join our growing team based at our Spalding Site. As Fleet Engineering Manager (FEM), you will hold overall responsibility for the Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU), fleet operations, and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) at the site, ensuring adherence to both legal requirements and Gist policies. The Fleet Engineering Manager role is pivotal in driving the progression and continuous improvement of VMU, fleet, and MHE over the coming months and years. You will have the opportunity to work hands on and closely with key stakeholders, including the UK Engineering Manager (UKEM), Site General Manager (GM), Site Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager, and other Fleet Engineering Managers (FEMs). Service Level Agreement (SLA) Management: Implement and manage service levels to ensure all VMU and fleet-related services meet or exceed expectations. VMU Service and Safety Compliance: Hold overall responsibility for VMU service and safety, ensuring strict adherence to both legal standards and Gist policies. VMU Improvement Plans: Lead the development and execution of VMU improvement plans, including people management, safety, standards, and financial performance, to optimise VMU operations. Labour Resource Management: Manage labour resources effectively, including annual leave planning, recruitment, and shift pattern management, to maintain operational efficiency. Service Planner Oversight: Oversee the service planner, taking into account the fleet make-up and peak service periods to ensure seamless operations. VMU Progression and Development: Drive the progression of the VMU, focusing on enhancing safety, training, and upgrading equipment and facilities. Financial Budget Control: Oversee and manage the financial budgets for VMU, fleet, and MHE, including the invoicing process, to ensure cost-effective operations. Financial Analysis and Reporting: Lead weekly financial analysis and reporting on the Engineering finance call, driving financial action plans to achieve site objectives. Compliance Oversight: Ensure oversight of compliance activities, including monthly checks and IMS04 auditing, to maintain the highest standards of operational integrity. Third-Party Contractor Management: Manage third-party contractors, including conducting regular documented review meetings to ensure service quality and compliance. Third-Party Customer Management: Effectively manage any third-party customers, ensuring their needs are met in line with Gist’s service standards. Site Interface Duties: Participate in site safety meetings and other site-related duties, providing strong collaborative support as an integral part of the site’s functions. Leadership Interface: Collaborate with site leadership and other colleagues across the business to deliver strong service performance and drive overall success. Cover for VSM: Provide cover for the Vehicle Service Manager (VSM) during periods of annual leave or sickness, ensuring continuity of service and operations. Who you are: Experience in a fleet engineering or maintenance environment. Experience in managing Vehicle Maintenance Units (VMUs), fleet operations, and Material Handling Equipment (MHE). Strong technical ability to identify and evaluate technical issues and potential risks, and develop innovative solutions. Qualified in engineering discipline; C&G, HNC, HND, or higher. Experience of operating within a unionised organisation is essential. Why Gist?
