Specialist Biomedical Scientist-Pathology
We are recruiting for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist with skills in Blood Sciences, who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Lister Pathology department is looking for a Full-time HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to work in the Pathology services at East and North Hertfordshire Trust, in the Blood Sciences department.
Duties will include routine operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the various analysers in both departments. We are a multi-discipline laboratory, and cross-training is encouraged in other blood science disciplines.
Staff development is vital to the organisation, and support will be provided to become a multidisciplinary member of staff within the Blood Sciences department.
The post holder will take part in the 24-hour shift system, consisting of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts, including nights once trained.

Main Duties of the Job
Duties involve processing specialist investigations in the department.
Provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding the appropriateness of tests and timescales.
Provide specialist services, e.g., training and problem-solving for specialist requirements.
You will work independently and lead on specialist areas as directed by the Lead BMS.
Act as a mentor for more junior scientific and support staff.
You will work flexibly in reflection of service needs; this may include an extended working day and/or participation in the delivery of a 24-hour, 7 days per week service.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
* Evidence of CPD
* Appropriate Post Registration IBMS Specialist Diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science
* European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
Experience
* Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of specialist biomedical procedures relevant to the post.
* Substantial practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
* Experience of Pathology IT systems
* Experience of Quality Management Systems
* Experience of performing Risk Assessments
* Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
* Previous experience of line managing staff
Skills
* Willingness to undertake cross-training to extend skill set to deliver the role
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Interpretation and analytical skills
* Demonstrable interpersonal skills - can work as part of a team or independently
* Able to prioritise own workload and that of others to meet the needs of the service
