Job summary
The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Hub for the South of England has a vacancy for the post of Hub Manager in new bespoke premises on the Surrey Research Park adjacent to the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The Hub is hosted by the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust and is part of the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) network. We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced manager to join a dynamic and friendly team dedicated to the provision of a high quality, high impact screening service to the 16 million population of the South England.
The Hub invites all 54-74 years olds (extending to 50 years) within its population to be screened, it provides a freephone helpline, laboratory and administrative services and liaises with 18 screening centres across the South of England in their provision of colonoscopy investigation for all participants with positive screening results. Our screening services continue to grow to include inviting people with Lynch syndrome for surveillance screening and recently extending the programme down to 50 years olds. We generate over 25,000 letters and receive over 600 calls each day and utilise both local and outsourced printing and distribution. We have a high research and development profile leading and contributing to many national and international projects, many in collaboration with major UK universities.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have well-developed personal leadership skills, provide sound judgement and have a commitment to provide a first class NHS screening service. They will manage the day-to-day activities of the Hub ensuring provision of appropriately skilled, trained, motivated and supervised staff. They will work closely with the Hub Director and General Manager for Screening Services to ensure all aspects of the service are of the highest quality and meet standards defined by the Programme, the Quality Assurance Reference Centre and ISO. The Hub Manager is expected to work closely with other Hub managers, suppliers, commissioners, Screening Centre staff, RSCH Trust colleagues and BCSP national officers.
The post holder will be jointly accountable to the General Manager for Screening Services and the Hub Director and is expected to demonstrate an enthusiastic approach to the provision and future development of this national screening programme.

1. Organise and facilitate the development of a communication strategy and approach within the Hub, FPH & RSCH Trusts and within the University.
2. Work closely with all screening centres, providing guidance and support.
3. Liaise closely with the National Programme (NHSE) for rollout of programme and other issues which may arise.
4. Work closely with Hub leads, to support and implement Hub objectives.
5. Liaise closely with, and report regularly to, the General Manager of Hub Screening Services.
6. Liaise closely with the Hub Director on delivery of the service.
7. Liaise as required with Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) colleagues.
8. Prepare regular performance and operational reports, ensuring that progress and problems are clearly communicated.
9. Regularly review the number of invitations being sent out daily for each of the 18 Screening Centres ensuring that any changes are introduced smoothly to minimise disruption to their workflow and to ensure that any drift from screening due date is minimised. This may involve communicating unwelcome news and securing commitment to unpopular measures in order to bring the programme back within plan.
10. Develop review and monitor Key Performance indicators in discussion with the General Manager of Hub Screening Services in addition to Southern Hub Management Team.
11. Represent the Hub at regional and national meetings as required.
12. Keep the General Manager and Director appraised of promotional material and promotional activities being undertaken by the National BCSP and by Screening Centres services by the Hub.
13. Liaise with Partnership Pathology Services, relevant Consultants, Human Resources, IT and Finance across the three organisations (RSCH, FPH and University of Surrey) in relation to related work streams and tasks to ensure that work is neither overlooked nor duplicated.
14. Refer all media enquiries to the Director.
