By joining Lexington Medical, you will have the opportunity to impact the lives of millions of patients worldwide and thrive in a growing company.
Lexington Medical is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to build and lead our in-house software team. This role will establish ownership over software quality, documentation, and system architecture, creating a strong foundation for our software initiatives. The focus will be on embedded software for our power handle, with a broader vision to develop a fully integrated surgical stapling platform. This includes data collection, intraoperative communication, and enhanced surgeon-device interaction. You'll be responsible for defining the technical framework, assembling the right team, and driving innovation in surgical technology.
Responsibilities:
* Establish and own software quality processes, including documentation, testing, and compliance for Class 2 and Class 3 medical device software.
* Define and implement software architecture, creating systems that support product development and seamless surgical workflow integration.
* Identify key capabilities, skills, and resources needed to achieve product goals and collaborate with Talent Acquisition to build a high-performing software team.
* Lead the software engineering team through design, development, system integration, and product testing, ensuring high-quality, reliable software.
* Drive development of embedded software for the power handle while expanding software capabilities to enhance intraoperative communication and data-driven surgical workflows.
* Improve system architectures, codebases, and software design controls, leading code reviews and advancing testing strategies.
* Develop and manage project plans and timelines, motivating and empowering team members to meet deliverables.
* Dynamically allocate resources to accommodate shifting project needs and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, regulatory, and product teams to align software development with broader company objectives.
* Proactively identify and mitigate risks to ensure software compliance and safety in medical device applications.
* Negotiate and align team strategies, ensuring a clear, executable vision that works for all stakeholders.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
* 5-8+ years of experience in software development, including working in a highly regulated industry bringing a complex electro-mechanical product to the market.
* 2+ years of experience leading or directly managing engineers.
* Proficient in integrating hardware with software.
* Proficiency in C required; familiarity with additional programming (e.g., Python, C++, or others) is highly desirable as the team continues to expand and diversify its capabilities.
* Strong ability to enforce and maintain coding standards.
* Proven track record in project management within scope and budget.
* Experience working within a cross-functional team to take a product from initial conception to market launch.
* Strong working knowledge of common communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, CANBUS, TCP/IP, etc).
* Experience in building and motivating high-achieving software teams.
* Evidence of implementing effective software development methodologies.
