Roles and Responsibilities:

2. Clinical, Leadership & Operational
3. To participate in development of and undertake all duties and functions pertinent to the Consultant’s area of competence and in line with policies as specified by the Clinical Director.
4. To work closely with the Clinical Director to support the development and delivery of operational and strategic plans.
5. To advise the Clinical Director of clinical priorities and pressures and be an active participant in strategic development discussions.
6. Provide for and ensure the delivery of positive patient and resident outcomes and with the continued strive for excellence.
7. Management of the clinical team members designated by the Clinical Director.
8. Liaise with clinical colleagues, the Clinical Director, Director of Nursing, Medical Officer and other clinical disciplines to ensure that activities across the centre are appropriately co-ordinated and integrated.
9. Develop new innovative ways of delivering clinical services.
10. Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE and Mental Health Commission requirements.
11. Ensure that a positive working relationship with external partners including Health Service Executive, Private Health Insurers and other Academic Institutions is maintained.
12. Ensure that systems are in place to deliver accurately and in timely fashion, all statutory information requirements including, for example, Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
13. Participate in systems to provide clinical information to staff that enables them to benchmark and audit their practice so as to improve the patient and resident’s experience.
14. Maintain regular communication with all staff in the centre.
15. Facilitate the maintenance of professional clinical competence.
16. Foster an open and inclusive style of working which facilitates positive relationship.
17. To participate in the performance management programme.
18. To ensure the highest standards of clinical effectiveness in the centre, including the delivery of local and national recommendations including Mental Health Commission, Health Information and Quality Authority, HSE guidelines, College of Psychiatry of Ireland guidelines and other national reports.
19. To place and maintain patient safety at the centre of all activity.
20. To maintain one’s own professional competence and development to a high standard and to demonstrate a proven record of undertaking C.M.E. and C.P.D.
21. Assist the Clinical Director to ensure that appropriate medical cover is available at all times having due regard to the implementation of the European Working Time Directive.
22. Teaching, Learning & Research
23. Assist with collaborative teaching and training programmes or facilities in accordance with company strategy.
24. Promote research activity and teaching in the centre in accordance with company strategy.
25. The post of Consultant Psychiatrist is a pivotal post with responsibility to lead a multi-disciplinary clinical team and ensuring that the highest standard of clinical care is planned, delivered and evaluated and that all targets and objectives are met in line with national and local standards. As Consultant Psychiatrist s/he will have overall responsibility for the:
26. Provision of the services of a psychiatrist to patients and residents and for the purpose of regulatory compliance.
27. Support the continued development of Clinical Governance and to assist in the implementation of the strategic and operational plans.
28. Efficient, effective and economic provision of clinical services within a defined budgetary framework.
29. Provision of teaching, research and academic support at a senior level as developed at associated educational facilities.
