McKinsey & Company is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Tax Director to join our Tax Group, specializing in Partner Tax. This role is key in managing McKinsey’s global Partner population, ensuring excellent client service and advisory support to our Partners and mitigating risks associated with individual taxes across our global operations. You will work closely with various stakeholders within the firm to deliver exceptional tax expertise to both our Partners and the wider firm.

Your Impact
The Partner Tax Group is responsible for the tax efficient and accurate delivery of Awards to the firm’s worldwide Partner Group (the ~3,000+ senior employees in ~70 countries who own the firm). The team collaborates closely with other firm functions such as Payroll, Benefits, Accounting and Finance, Legal, and Human Resources, as well as external advisors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Partner country portfolio: Ownership of a portfolio of countries, supported by a Manager/Senior Manager, to design, implement, and oversee the operation of structures to deliver Partner Awards in a tax-efficient manner that aligns with the firm’s tax risk standards.
2. Advisory: Advise Partners on aspects of their Award delivery and take responsibility for management of specific countries including the day-to-day interactions with Partners in those respective countries.
3. Coordination with Tax Groups: Liaise with the Corporate Tax, Employment Tax and Transferee Tax groups as needed to ensure the firm’s global tax strategy is refined and implemented appropriately.
4. Collaboration with Internal Teams: Collaborate closely with colleagues in the local office Finance function and the firm’s central support functions (Legal, Benefits, Treasury, and Finance) to ensure Award delivery occurs as planned.
5. Management of Local Tax Audits: Lead aspects of local tax audits related to Partner Award delivery and taxes.
6. Project Management and Technical Support: Provide project leadership and technical support on various projects that span multiple countries within the tax team.
Your qualifications and skills
1. An excellent academic background, including a recognized tax or accounting qualification (ACA, ATT, CTA).
2. 12+ years of experience in personal taxes and/or expatriate tax in the UK, US or another country, gained either in accounting practice or in-house in a large multinational corporation. Experience ideally includes handling high-net worth individuals or senior executives.
3. Very strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to various stakeholders.
4. Outstanding tax and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead the design and implement workable tax operational processes.
5. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels within the organization and across a wide range of countries.
6. Ability to work independently, managing a number of projects simultaneously.
7. Experience in leading global projects and multiple stakeholders.
