Pay Rate: up to £29.60 per hour PAYE depending on experience (tbc)
Working Hours: 37 hours Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Duration: This opening assignment is for 2-3 months

Candidates need to live within daily commuting distance or at a minimum travel to the office at least 2 days per fortnight to conduct site visits.
Someone who is experienced in dealing with the full range of non-major applications (including those which require an understanding of the Conservation of Habitat and Species Regulations). Seeking someone who is capable of dealing with a large, varied caseload, including more complex cases which may include those for 5+ dwellings. A good understanding of the full range of ‘Prior Approval’ is essential.
The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of working through a large caseload with minimal supervision, and highly organized to ensure that no statutory deadlines are missed. While it is intended that the candidate would be processing new applications, they may be required to determine some older applications, including those reallocated from other case officers. They may also be required to assist in the processing of appeals, pre-application enquiries, and other matters typical of DM caseloads.
Key Responsibilities:
* Examination and assessment of a range of applications submitted to the Local Planning Authority and related planning issues with reference to Development Plan Policies and any other material considerations.
* Maintaining accurate and reliable records in relation to casework including computer and photographic records (where necessary).
* Negotiations to achieve improvements to planning proposals.
* Drafting of recommendations and Committee reports on high volume planning proposals within target timescales.
* Providing excellent customer service by advising applicants/agents during the processing of planning proposals and giving pre-application advice on planning issues and policies.
* Attendance as required by the Business Manager – Strategic Place at Committee meetings, Site Inspection Parties and other similar meetings involving Councillors.
* Preparing appeal statements and giving evidence at planning appeals.
* Carrying out investigations, including site inspections, to ensure compliance with planning conditions, pursuance of complaints to Planning Services on planning related matters and liaising with and advising the enforcement team about breaches of planning control.
* Such other planning duties as occasionally required, commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.
Qualifications:
* Hold or be working towards a degree in Town Planning and membership of the RTPI.
* Basic computer literacy (ECDL and/or E-Type desirable).
* A full driving licence.
Knowledge:
* A thorough knowledge of the Town and Country planning legislation.
* Knowledge of data protection principles. (desirable)
Experience:
* Relevant experience in a local planning authority. (desirable)
