Paediatric Staff Nurse, Band 5, Cumberland Infirmary, 36 hours per week.
Based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse (Child) to work on the Children's Ward, 36 hours on a permanent contract. Children's Ward is a 24 bed general paediatric unit that also covers surgical specialities such as ENT and Orthopaedics. You will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of nursing care to children, young people and their families. You will also contribute as requested by the Ward Manager to the operational and strategic management of the unit, actively participating in the development and implementation of quality initiatives. The Trust will provide a twelve month preceptorship period for all newly registered healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
You will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of nursing care to children, young people and their families. You will also contribute as requested by the Ward Manager to the operational and strategic management of the unit, actively participating in the development and implementation of quality initiatives.
The unit promotes a philosophy of family centred care and provides a 24 hour comprehensive nursing care service to the paediatric population of North Cumbria, with high regard for the child and families individual needs and with acknowledgement and implementation of the Department of Health Recommendations.
Job responsibilities
The Trust will provide a twelve month preceptorship period for all newly registered healthcare professionals.
Healthcare Professionals returning to practice, moving into new roles or changing clinical environments, may access an agreed preceptorship period.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered nurse (child) with RSCN or equivalent
* Safeguarding training level
* Further relevant development to postgraduate diploma or equivalent.
* EPALS
* ENB 998 / NST 307 or equivalent.
Experience
* Current relevant acute child health nursing
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Preceptor / mentor for student nurses and junior staff
* Nursing children with special needs
* Ward management experience
Knowledge
* Continuing professional development with portfolio
* Current child health agenda.
* Equality legislation and best practice
Skills
* Able to organise, prioritise and delegate work.
* Ability to deliver a high standard of care to children and young people
* Able to apply evidence based care to practice.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

* Venepuncture and cannulation
