An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Operating Department Practitioner to join the team in Rutherford Brachytherapy Theatres. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate clinical skills within a busy specialised unit.
Oncology CSU is part of Leeds Cancer Centre, one of the largest providers of specialist cancer care in the UK. Rutherford Brachytherapy Theatres is a busy highly specialised Oncology Day Surgery Unit. Situated in the Centre, we treat approximately 130 patients per month in the theatre suite. The department is currently open 7:30am to 6pm each weekday. We care for complex Oncology patients with a variety of diagnoses.

The Department provides an established and internationally renowned Gynaecology and Prostate Brachytherapy service. As a multi-disciplinary team comprising of clinicians, theatre staff, radiographers and medical scientists, we deliver optimum, high quality, patient-focused treatment with favourable results.
The department offers a dedicated adult Oncology CVAD insertion and removal service which is in high demand. We also accommodate a pain list for patients requiring specialist intervention for their pain control.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, theatre staff, radiographers and medical physicists all providing specialist treatment and patient support.
We are a flexible workforce allowing practitioners to work across all aspects of the day-case patients pathway - admission, the peri-operative phase and recovery and discharge. This provides variety and the opportunity to increase your skills set. The post-holder is expected to use their experience in supporting and training other qualified professionals, trainees and visitors.

Job responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:
To provide and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the Peri-operative patient. To carry out all relevant forms of care competently without direct supervision.
Communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care and promote effective team working.
To assist with the teaching and supervision of learners and other staff.
The jobholder will work within an environment caring for peri-operative patients within the oncology CSU.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Clinical:
1. Maintain a high standard of patient-focused care in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust guidelines and policies.
2. Maintain a clean, secure and safe working environment.
3. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of Peri-operative care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
4. Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to information.
5. Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient.
6. Act in accordance with the professional code of conduct.
7. Participate in the theatre on-call rota, as required.
8. Undertake duties in other departments as and when required by service demands.
Education and Training:
1. Keep up to date with developments, advances and research in individualised patient care and participate in research/educational programmes relating to professional issues.
2. Contribute to the promotion of a positive learning environment within the clinical area.
3. Assist in the training and education of learners and other staff.
4. Actively participate in the development of own personal development plan and performance review.
5. Participate in mandatory training annually.
Managerial:

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Level 1 or 2) OR
* Registered Operating Department Practitioner
* Willing to undergo training as necessary.
* Ability to demonstrate and explain skills to other staff.
