We are seeking a dedicated Biomedical Science Assistants (Higher level) to support the Scientific and Consultant teams in the department of Histopathology, based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. A Biomedical Science Assistant is an integral part of a pathology laboratory team. The role supports Biomedical Scientists in delivering a first class diagnostic service to medical professionals. This role is both challenging and rewarding. It is centred around ensuring patients receive the very best level of care in the analysis of their samples and the results that are produced. These results inform medical professionals on important decisions that they make regarding patient care. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be required to undertake: Roles in specimen reception, specimen dissection transcription, specimen processing as well as a range of other duties including computer data entry, slide scanning for Digital pathology, operation of laboratory equipment, filing and retrieval of specimens, glass slides and paraffin blocks. Pre-analytical processing of samples to include the receipt, preparation and processing. Deal with direct queries from Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary. Preparation of slides to load and unload digital pathology scanners. Assist Scientific Staff in laboratory activities. Store and retrieve biological material.
