The Company
My client is a successful, dynamic, and growing contracting business that works within Highways & Civils Infrastructures. They are currently growing year on year in the UK and have a healthy turnover. As a result of increased workload and significant major projects, they are looking to hire an experienced Design Engineer to take design responsibility for Structures & Temporary Work design on Civils & Highways Projects.
The Role
1. Responsible for the Civil and Structural Design elements of projects using industry standard software and coordinating design.
2. Ensuring civil and structural design elements for projects are in line with client specifications, current industry guidance, and codes of practice.
3. Liaising with project managers and quantity surveyors regarding costing, planning, and delivery of Civil & Structural elements.
4. Ensure all engineering deliverables are undertaken in accordance with the company's design management procedures.
5. Mentoring graduate engineers.
6. Engagement with local authorities/municipalities/utilities to ensure design is in accordance with planning requirements and gains sign off.
7. Managing and responding to sub-contractor technical submissions.
8. Client interfacing, including occasional site visits across all of the company's portfolio of international work, as required.
The Candidate
1. Excellent interpersonal skills with a preference for verbal communication and management.
2. Understand/Read sections, elevation, and plan drawings of masonry, steel, and concrete structures, drainage, and roadworks.
3. Should be able to communicate in English and be proficient in writing technical reports.
4. Civil/Structural design experience and knowledge of a broad range of civil engineering fields (SuDS/drainage, roads/transport, concrete, steel, masonry, geotechnics, utilities, etc.) would be a distinct advantage; however, it is not necessary to have technical expertise in all of these areas.
5. Critical thinking skills with aptitude for innovative design and value engineering.
6. Experience of temporary works design.
7. Team player who demonstrates a high level of initiative.
8. High level of computer literacy with proficiency in relevant software (AutoCAD).
9. BIM familiarity is also advantageous.
