About Us
Magenta Insurance, a Chartered Insurance Underwriting Agent, boasts nearly 30 years of market experience, long-standing relationships, and an excellent reputation. We specialize in underwriting non-standard and distressed residential property policies, providing solutions that others find challenging to place.
The Role
As a Referral Technician / Underwriting Assistant, you'll provide efficient and effective technical and administrative support to our underwriting teams. You'll play a key role in developing our new business Underwriting portfolio while honing your skills to liaise with key internal and external stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
* Perform routine evaluation and underwriting of referred risks within designated authority and following established procedures.
* Support underwriting through general administration to ensure delivery of a professional service.
* Develop your technical and underwriting knowledge to take on more complex cases over time.
* Manage incoming phone calls, identify quote referrals within authority level, and escalate those beyond to senior colleagues.
* Evaluate quote referrals received via email from Brokers for quotes requested via EDI platforms.
* Provide support to colleagues by assisting with daily tasks while learning new processes and procedures.
* Liaise with Brokers to obtain additional information as requested by Underwriters.
* Assist team members in ensuring all daily work tasks are completed within the required time frames.
* Administer the team email mailboxes, distributing emails to the relevant team members as required.
Additional responsibilities
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of the policy cover for the entire Magenta Insurance product suite.
* Maintain accurate records of discussions or correspondence with customers.
* Process new business, including data entry into the system, populating relevant systems, and initiating cover.
* Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
* Ensure accurate underwriting data is captured on systems to minimize risk and ensure high-quality output of information.
* Study for, and pass, the 3 units required to obtain the CII's IF1 qualification.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Technical Experience
* Experience working within an underwriting environment would be beneficial.
* Good understanding of Property Insurance.
* Minimum 1 year experience of telephone-based work.
* Ideally, 2 years of experience in an Insurance role.
* Preferably, 1 year of experience in a Property Insurance role.
* Essential to have a solid understanding of office administration.
* Must have experience of handling incoming phone calls in a busy environment.
