Duties:
* Provide expert advice and oversight to submarine maintenance activities. This includes advice to the Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC) prime contractor, Waterfront teams and the wider Royal Canadian Navy (RCN)
* Act as responsible lead for docking events
* Act as responsible lead for stability trials
* Act as responsible lead for submarine dive trials
* Provide expert advice and oversight on weight management, stability, materials, trials, lifting appliances, structural integrity, watertight integrity, propulsion and maneuvering controls
* Provide expert advice on submarine tests and trials
* Provide expert advice on submarine system safety certification
* Work with Capability Manager to identify the levels of suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) required to fulfil current and projected demand
* Work with Capability Manager to identify training or other developmental opportunities to develop SQEP within BMT
* Work with Capability Manager to identify resources for project work, training and development opportunities
* Mentor BMT staff who are developing skills, qualifications and experience in submarine design, maintenance, and certification issues
* Travelling to BMT offices on occasion, which may be overseas, as and when required.
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or a related subject matter is required
* Master’s degree is preferred
* At least 10 years of relevant experience in Naval Architectural is required
* Existing registration or ability to obtain registration with Professional Engineering governance body in Province of work
* Experience in leading submarine docking/undocking events
* Experience in leading submarine stability trials as well as trim and incline events
* Experience working within large complex projects, involving multiple stakeholders, shifting priorities, and significant budgets
* Experience working in a shipyard setting
* Experience working with or within the Department of National Defence (DND) offices (Class Desk, FMF)
* Knowledge of the principles and application of key Naval Architectural policies standards and references including but not limited to:
o Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CTFOs)
o International Maritime Organization standards
