Job summary The Phlebotomist is an integral member of the patient service: He/she will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing venepuncture on patients requiring blood tests. To contribute to the efficient performance of the clinical team in the provision of services to patients, in accordance with local and Trust policies. Obtain an accurate volume of blood to chemical ratios. Utilisation of appropriate blood bottles dependent upon tests required ensuring all necessary bloods are requested and sampled. Confident in the use and application of IT systems. Good keyboard skills as interaction with a electronic patient record system (SystmOne and ICE) is used to access, view and print patient blood test requests is required. Obtain patients lawful consent to perform an invasive procedure. Maintain Health, Safety and wellbeing of yourself and others. To achieve a high standard of practice using competencies within Phlebotomy. The safe and appropriate use and disposal of equipment and sharps. To liaise and communicate with doctors, nurses and other ward staff. Give patients, guardians and carers appropriate advice regarding the availability of test results.
