Job overview
We are looking for a Specialty Doctor with experience in psychiatry. The post is for 12 months fixed term with a possibility of extending it.
The post holder will work closely with the responsible clinician for the patients, Dr Gaurav Sharma, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, who will be the line manager. Other members of the multidisciplinary team include a clinical psychologist, a social worker, an occupational therapist and full nursing teams.
Main duties of the job
1. The assessment and initial treatment of newly admitted patients, including physical examinations.
2. Working as part of the psychiatric team monitoring and promoting mental health.
3. The organization and follow up of physical investigations as needed.
4. Working with the primary care team and hospital colleagues to ensure high quality physical healthcare for the patients.
5. The on-going assessment and management of inpatients, including contributing to multidisciplinary reviews by presenting updated clinical information on patients and documenting the multidisciplinary discussion.
6. Participation in CPA meetings and relevant documentation.
7. The preparation of CPA medical reports.
8. Attendance at weekly clinical team meetings, reflective practice and community meetings where possible.
9. Adhering to trust policies and maintaining clinical records.
10. To arrange cross cover with CT1-3 colleagues for annual and study leave.
11. Occasionally you may be asked to support a different part of the service 1 day a week to cover any service needs.
Person specification
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.
Qualifications
* MBCHB or equivalent medical qualification.
* Shall have completed at least 4 years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis).

* Acute care safe: up-to-date basic life support training.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Relevant specialty clinical knowledge.
* Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
* Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills required in the job.
