Job summary The Primrose Breast Unit are looking for an enthusiastic Female Radiographic Helper to join the Breast Imaging team. The Breast Unit is a purpose-built facility and provides breast symptomatic and NHS Breast Screening services. Imaging facilities comprise of 2 mammography rooms, a small field prone biopsy table and vacuum assisted biopsy device, and 3 ultrasound rooms. You will be required to provide support to patients during breast imaging procedures and assist clinicians undertaking image guided breast biopsy and localisation procedures. You will be also required to prepare breast screening paperwork for reporting. This post is open to female applicants only. Main duties of the job This is a high volume cancer service providing numerous breast interventions, eg ultrasound and X-ray guided breast and axillary biopsy, abscess and cyst treatment/drainage, pre-operative wire localisation, vacuum excision of breast lesions, and marker clip insertion into cancers prior to chemotherapy. Main purpose : To provide emotional and other support for patients during intimate and potentially distressing breast ultrasound examinations and interventional procedures to exclude or diagnose breast cancer. To safely and efficiently assist the clincian during image-guided breast interventions, ensuring that haemostasis and sterility is maintained. After the intervention, the Clinician leaves the room and the post-holder then works independently and is responsible for the application of pressure to the intervention site, to prevent bruising, for applying a suitable dressing (including pressure dressing,) and for safe discharge of the patient. This is under the indirect supervision of the clincian; the post-holder independently makes the decision whether medical review is required pre discharge. To co-ordinate and oversee safe and efficient patient flow across the department, especially during the busy clinics.
