Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has around 1.2 million patient contacts a year.
We provide healthcare to the people of Swindon and the surrounding areas, offering the latest treatments and care in hospital, in the local community and in people's own homes.
We provide a range of specialist services from the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, located just off junction 15 of the M4.
Our large and modern hospital has around 480 beds, numerous outpatient clinics, CT and MRI scanners, maternity services, an Intensive Care Unit, an Urgent Care Centre and a 24/7 Emergency Department.
We also support people to stay well and out of hospital, to manage long term conditions and provide care in local community facilities and in people's own homes across Swindon.

Job Overview
Director of Midwifery and Neonatal Unit
We are seeking a senior midwife who is looking to join our leadership team and work as part of the Divisional Quad with professional accountability to the Chief Nurse.
As the successful applicant you will provide guidance, support and leadership to all nursing and midwifery staff within maternity and neonatal services to ensure patient safety, service quality and excellent patient experience is consistently maintained.
You will be accountable for ensuring the appropriate management and leadership of the midwifery teams, holding Matrons, ward and department leaders and clinical practitioners to account to ensure that organisational performance indicators and Care Quality Commission standards and quality indicators are monitored, and appropriate action is taken according to results.

You will provide the professional, strategic and operational leadership across the maternity and neonatal services to ensure optimum standards of care and service are delivered through effective management of human, financial and physical resources.
You will lead and develop services through the implementation of innovative strategies to ensure an empowered workforce at all levels that is fit for purpose and equipped to deliver excellence in care standards, including securing the workforce for the future.
Implementation of the corporate midwifery agenda; taking a specific strategic lead where requested on allocated cross divisional and corporate roles.
Areas of key focus will change over time, but currently key outcome measures are:
* Leading and achieving good with outstanding elements in CQC assessment and rating.
* Meeting CNST requirements.
* Achieving compliance against the Ockenden report standards.
* Achieving compliance to the Three-Year Delivery Plan.
* Undertaking a six-monthly midwifery staffing review and developing an associated workforce plan in line with Birth Rate Plus.
* Engagement of the midwifery teams in monitoring and reporting of clinical outcomes.
* Embedding the Divisional Quality Framework.
* Works with the Head of Midwifery and Speciality Triumvirate to develop an annual business plan which is in line with commissioning intentions and organisational objectives.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered midwife with the NMC with evidence of personal and professional commitment to CPD in line with revalidation requirements.
* Able to demonstrate up-to-date clinical expertise and competence and expert proven knowledge of Maternity services.
* Educated to masters Level in a healthcare related subject or holds a degree with significant progress and clear deadline for completion of further studies at Masters Level.
* Holds or willing to work towards a recognised management qualification and has undertaken substantial leadership development.
Experience
Essential criteria
* A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management and financial management.
* Experience in a senior midwifery leadership position at band 8a or above, with evidence of motivating and leading a team and contributing to service development through change/project management.
* Experience that recognises highly developed and complex levels of knowledge, which enable the development of in-depth and original responses to complicated and unpredictable problems and situations.
* Demonstration and evidence of personal professional development.
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of effective working relationships both inside and outside the organisation.
* Experience of leading strategic/cross Trust changes.
* Experience in preparing business cases.
* Experience of working at strategic or regional levels.
* Experience of presenting to Trust Board.
