Free and fair competition and effective consumer protection support growth by driving forward innovation, increasing productivity, and encouraging investment into the UK. This is a period of significant change and opportunity for competition policy, with the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act now in law, which expands and strengthens the UK competition regime.
The Competition Policy team covers:
* Policy ownership and strategic leadership of the UK’s competition regime.
* Supporting other Government departments to ensure promotion of competition as they develop their own policy proposals, including key contributions to the Government’s Industrial Strategy and the wider work which supports the Growth mission.
* Sponsorship of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, Competition Service and Competition and Markets Authority.
* Leading international negotiations for competition cooperation agreements and competition policy in trade agreements.
* Provide support for the Government response to live competition cases, such as high-profile market cases on house-building or veterinary services. This can involve advising ministers, coordinating other government departments and advising on comms responses.
* Delivering strategic research projects on the importance of competition in the economy and identifying potential areas for future reforms.
The team is recruiting for two SEO Senior Policy Adviser roles – one focused on the UK’s competition policy and one focused on supporting international cooperation and engagement. Competition is of interest across a wide variety of Government functions and policy areas and the successful candidates will likely be working across a range of areas.
We are committed to making the Consumer and Competition Policy Directorate a great place to work, where everyone is valued for the skills and experience, they bring and develop, and has the support and opportunity to reach their goals.
