Job Title: Team Leader (night duty) Location Aaron House, Rosneath Gardens, Dundonald, Belfast Council/Office: Council for Social Witness (Disability Services) Salary: Agenda for Change Band 5 £per annum pro rata Hours: 11.5 hours (one night per week) Responsible to: The Home Manager Main function: The Team Leader will help to ensure that a high level of care is maintained within the Home, in accordance with agreed policies, procedures and best practice. They will also ensure that the individual needs of the Residents are fully met within a caring environment. MAIN DUTIES 1. Care Responsibilities a)Ensure a high standard of care is maintained in the Home, by supervising staff on a daily basis and ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to. b)Ensure that all matters within the Home are treated in strict confidence. c)To uphold the principles of choice, participation, respect and dignity for persons with disabilities. d)Manage the Home on a daily basis and act as the designated person in charge when required. This will include the management of Care and Housekeeping staff and when in this role the Team Leader must be in the Home at all times. e)Maintain a safe working environment with all appropriate Health and Safety and Fire Procedures adhered to. f)Act as a Key Worker for named residents and direct Care Staff within the Key Group g)Assess individual residents needs, plan and implement care plans and evaluate intervention strategies by carrying out regular reviews. h)Be responsible for the storage, administration and safe handling of medication. i)Undertake shift and waking night duties as required. j)Organise and accompany residents on holidays, outings and other appointments. k)Liaise with Voluntary and Statutory Agencies, families and carers. 2. Leadership and Training a)Undertake staff supervision as directed by the Home Manager. b)Organise the Induction and Training of Staff under the direction of the Home Manager. c)Be responsible for own Personal Development and to participate in appropriate training courses. d)Attend supervision sessions, staff meetings and residential meetings as required. e)Ensure adherence to any rules, regulations and reporting mechanisms in the pursuit of good practice and the promotion of a quality agenda. 3. Administration a)Deal with enquiries when necessary, referring to the Home Manager as appropriate. b)Deal with administrative tasks. c)Maintain all records within the context of confidentiality and client access in keeping with legislation and guidance. CRITERIA 1. Qualifications and Knowledge Essential NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent in qualification) including 3 years experience of working in a care setting, of which 2 years should be working with people with a complex learning disability. OR A recognised professional qualification e.g., RNLD, RGN, RSCN, RMN, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy (or awaiting registration) An understanding of the needs of people with a profound learning disability and their families Experience of working in a residential or hospital setting Desirable 1 years experience of supervising staff. Previous experience of managing challenging behaviour 2. Skills Essential The ability to plan, develop and implement programmes of care The ability to plan and prioritise work schedules and maintain accurate records Be able to supervise and instruct staff effectively Be a team player and encourage a team ethic Desirable Have basic IT skills Hold a current, clean driving licence 3. Special Circumstances Essential Willingness to commit to working within the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland Availability for flexible hours working, as hours will be worked to cover a 24 hour shift pattern and therefore could include evenings, weekends or waking nights.
