What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a Cover Supervisor & Pastoral Leader to support staff and students at Harris Academy Clapham, promoting a safe environment with excellent levels of behaviour so everyone is entitled to learn. You will help overcome barriers to learning using a range of techniques, including pupil counselling, focusing on the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of the pupils.
We would like to hear from you if you have:
• Qualifications to A Level standard or equivalent
• Knowledge of appropriate strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements
• Basic knowledge of SEN and other learning barriers
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Relevant experience in successfully supervising groups of children aged 11-16
• Previous experience in a school or comparable large organisation
• Understanding of a secondary school environment
• The ability to provide classroom cover – within agreed parameters – in the absence of the class teacher
• The ability to consistently and effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies
• Awareness of safeguarding systems and issues which might arise

Further details about the role
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting the consistent implementation of the Behaviour for Learning policy
• Managing the calm and purposeful movement of students around the Academy, including entry and exit
• Being part of the safeguarding team
• Working with the other pastoral leaders as a team to ensure students are monitored and supervised before school, during break and throughout lunch
• Running and supporting in detentions
• Following through any issues to do with behaviour
• Mentoring students on PSPs, including supporting in lessons as appropriate
• Attending CP/CHIN meetings and update records accordingly.
• Organising and running behaviour interventions
• Supporting with compiling files required for disciplinary panels or exclusion hearings
• Ensuring that all issues that relate to student safety such as allegations of bullying are escalated in a timely manner
• Liaising with the local community, including the Police, including dealing with incidents received by the Academy
• Supervising lessons for absent teachers, allocating explaining and overseeingwork set
