Role - Environmental Advisor
Location - UK
Purpose of the role:
As Environmental Advisor, you will support the Framework Head of HS&E on all environmental aspects. You will support and implement the HS&E strategy and systems to ensure that the delivery of our operations meets exemplary environmental standards. This role supports improvement and consistency in performance, ensuring compliance with management systems, and implementing continual improvement initiatives.
What will you be doing:
1. Foster and support an inclusive, open, transparent, and collaborative environment that supports our HS&E culture, maturity, and behaviours to deliver HS&E excellence.
2. Support the implementation of our HS&E strategy to drive continual improvement through the business addressing short-, medium-, and long-term growth and learning. This will be achieved through collaboration with others in our teams and other key stakeholders.
3. Promote a positive HS&S culture which is consistent with Galliford Try's Challenging Beliefs and Affecting Behaviours programme and business leadership ambitions.
4. Represent and promote the HS&E function in internal and external meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums - communicating best practice standards and initiatives.
5. Implement our environmental management system, taking account of client requirements, to align with our overall strategy and driving performance through our processes and standards.
6. Engage with internal and external key stakeholders, including client, supply chain partners, regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and colleagues, through the project lifecycle.
7. Provides environmental input to operational teams from the planning stage through to completion, through technical and specialist guidance and advice to support proactive planning and implementation of our standards. Takes appropriate action where our standards are not being met.
8. Utilises environmental performance KPIs to review performance and drives continual improvement.
9. Contributes to continual improvement to unlock gains in environmental performance and mitigate risk to GT that could occur through environmental related issues.
10. Proactively collaborate with our teams on all HS&E matters which may affect our projects. Attend meetings as required.
11. Escalate and report any environmental concerns to the Framework HS&E Manager and to the Operations Team.
Key Outputs:
1. Supports operational staff in the review of high-risk method statements and risk assessments.
2. Carries out environmental reviews and inspections at our workplaces on a regular basis, conducts site safety and environmental audits, and undertakes ISO 14001 audits to ensure compliance with our management systems. Records in our systems and advises management as appropriate.
3. Assists in onboarding and management review of our supply chain partners applicable to project or business scope where necessary.
4. Supports our learning and development programme by preparing and delivering training and awareness sessions, instructions, best practice guidance, codes of practice, environmental information, etc. to our operational and leadership teams, our clients and at industry events as required.
5. Responsible for investigating incidents and non-conformities, production of reports and leading opportunities for improvement, as appropriate.
6. Support or lead incident investigations to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent recurrence. Monitor and manage incident reports within the designated timescale and manage close out on the Galliford Try M2i system. Liaise with regulatory bodies in the management of incidents.
7. Produce month end reports in a timely manner and present to the relevant Board.
About You:

8. Able to evidence a well-structured, systematic approach to identify and analyse problems, understand risks, and implement appropriate solutions.
9. Ideally experienced in either infrastructure, water, or similar regulated markets.
10. Proven in environmental management, systems, risks, and legal frameworks.
11. Experienced in delivering environmental role in a project lifecycle environment (prepare, design and construction).
12. Knowledge of data analytics and reporting systems.
13. Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.
Essential:
1. Relevant HS&E experience in a similar industry.
2. Holds a NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate or is working towards one.
3. Full driving licence and willingness to travel across projects / contracts in region.
Desirable:
1. Member of IEMA.
