This is a fixed-term position with the potential to extend or become a substantive role. Working as part of a friendly and professional team to undertake pre-operative assessments of all elective inpatient and day surgery admissions, including local, regional, and general anaesthetics. Providing a safe, effective, and efficient care environment for patients, relatives, and carers. By successfully completing the assessment process, ordering preoperative investigations, and liaising with internal and external members of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will prepare the patients for admission and discharge.
Main duties of the job
In-depth assessment of patients in preparation for planned surgery. Communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies to plan and deliver outstanding care and patient journey. Working closely with senior colleagues to receive support and development within the preassessment specialty. Making safe clinical decisions relating to patient needs to ensure that all required preoperative investigations/information are available and reviewed by the clinical team as needed. Promoting health improvements and pre-habilitation for patient optimisation. Demonstrating procedures and supervising unqualified staff, and working without direct supervision once the key learning outcomes of the foundation programme are complete. Participating in the training of junior staff and continuing personal and professional development. We encourage development and attendance of preassessment courses.
