About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and innovative Engineering/Technical Manager to join our Built Environment and Property team and work across a varied portfolio of properties. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for integrating and managing critical building systems, technologies, and processes, ensuring seamless operations and driving performance, compliance, and sustainability.
You will combine a hands-on technical approach with a strategic mindset, leading improvement projects, overseeing system integration, managing preventative maintenance programs, and collaborating on disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Your work will directly support our sustainability and operational goals while driving efficiency and resilience across our property portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide hands-on technical oversight for technologies already in the property portfolio, involving HVAC systems, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Air Source Heat Pumps, Battery Storage Solutions, PV Panels, Solar Thermal, Rainwater Harvesting, and other initiatives, championing innovation and sustainability.
2. System Integration and Management: Oversee the integration, upgrade and management of existing systems such as door entry, intruder and fire alarms, HVAC, CCTV, and Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), ensuring they function harmoniously across the portfolio and maximise efficiency.
3. Lead improvement projects from conception to implementation, collaborating with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure efficiency and quality on a wide variety of retrofit, upgrade and new-build projects at various RIBA stages.
4. Develop and manage a preventative maintenance schedule for key building systems, such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, ensuring that potential issues are identified and resolved before they impact operations.
5. Utilise remote monitoring tools to receive real-time alerts for critical system failures and respond promptly.
6. Manage technical documentation, including fuse board logs, labelling systems, and technical compliance records.
7. Integration of Digital Twins for Scenario Simulation and Failure Impact Analysis: Utilise a digital twin/BIM model to simulate various failure scenarios (e.g. valve failures, electrical faults) and assess their impact on building operations.
8. Use these simulations to improve response protocols, optimise system redundancies, and enhance the overall building resilience strategy.
9. Collaborate on disaster recovery and business continuity plans for technical systems.
10. Manage relationships with external providers, ensuring systems and technologies are effectively implemented, maintained, and upgraded as needed.
11. Serve as the primary escalation point for technical challenges, ensuring swift and effective problem-solving to minimise downtime or disruption.
About You:
1. Technically Proficient: You have in-depth technical knowledge of critical systems like HVAC, BMS, and CCTV, with a strong ability to integrate and optimise these technologies across multiple sites.
2. Problem-Solver: You are proactive in identifying and resolving issues, with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and technical support.
3. Strategic Vision: You have a keen understanding of both immediate operational needs and long-term optimisation goals, able to make informed decisions that drive efficiency and system integration.
4. Collaborative Leader: You are comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, ensuring all parties are aligned and working towards common goals.
5. Adaptable: You are flexible and thrive in a fast-paced environment, able to juggle multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
6. Calm Under Pressure: You remain composed when facing challenges or technical issues, ensuring quick and effective solutions to minimise disruption.
7. Hands-On Approach: While you possess technical expertise, you are also comfortable being physically involved in the projects, ensuring both the strategy and execution are covered.
This is a pivotal role that requires a balance of technical expertise, project management skills, and hands-on involvement. If you’re passionate about system integration and improving operational efficiency, this is the role for you.
This is a critical role for our team, requiring someone who can not only take ownership of technical systems but also ensure their smooth integration and performance across our portfolio.
If you’re a hands-on technical leader with a strategic mindset, this role offers an exciting opportunity to make a real impact.
