About the Role:
As a Port Health Officer, you will play a crucial role in protecting public health, the environment, and the economy by enforcing vital health regulations at the port. You’ll work on the front lines of health and safety, ensuring that national and international legislation is upheld.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct inspections across the port to ensure compliance with both national and international health regulations, safeguarding public health.
* Provide expert advice and take necessary enforcement actions to address port health issues, maintaining the highest standards of public and environmental health.
* Lead and develop specialised areas within Port Health, staying ahead of changes in legislation, industry trends, and best practices.
* Support the delivery of the Port Health Service Business Plan by planning and executing inspections, interventions, and handling casework that ensures operational success.
* Draft enforcement notices and provide guidance on legal proceedings when necessary, ensuring compliance is met with a solid legal framework.
Key requirements for the role:
* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Health, recognized by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
* EHORB Registration and Chartered Membership of CIEH.
* A Postgraduate qualification relevant to Port Health, such as Food Safety.
* In-depth knowledge of food and feed controls, public and environmental health legislation, and experience with border control post operations.
* Strong IT skills to manage reporting and inspection systems efficiently.
* A proven track record in Port Health and Environmental Health practices.
* A valid UK driving license.
